East Conway, NH – September 2007 - With a freak storm on a Saturday night in August, lightning struck the cornfield at Sherman Farm and carved strange lines into an amazing design. Bringing the maze craze to the Mount Washington Valley, the Sherman family will unravel the mystery when they open the area’s first MAiZE, an intricate network of twists and turns carved into eight acres of corn, on September 22 the Grand Opening. The Shermans and maze designer Brett Herbst – the world’s leading designer of 600+ corn mazes worldwide -- hope to challenge the wits of those seeking to find the one exit from their mind-boggling puzzle -- a unique source of good farmin' fun for adults and children alike. Though the correct pathway can be walked in only 30 minutes, most wandering maze-goers will require about one hour or more to travel through more than three miles of twists, turns and decision points. As a tribute to its location, the maze is designed in the shape of The Old Man of the Mountain. We will close when raining or when conditions are slippery.
Ways To Enjoy The MAiZE
Open daily, The MAiZE caters to school field trips during the week days and has created an elementary education campaign that includes: customized ag-in-the-classroom lesson plans and activity sheets for teachers, discounted field trip opportunities, on-site educational displays, and an agricultural "passport" that integrates education into the maze experience and helps guide students along the correct pathway. Teachers can access curriculum materials and field trip information online at www.cornfieldmaze.com
A series of “passports” are available for church groups, girl and boy scouts, 4-Hers, corporate groups and the general public. Each containing ten questions that quiz the user on one of a variety of subjects, those who answer the questions correctly will receive clues that guide them along the correct path to the exit. Other attractions at the MAiZE are the Moo Express, a Mini Maze, Corn Box, Hayrides, Pick your own Pumpkins, farm animals for patting and food and drink will be offered. The cornfield maze is a real cornfield therefore uneven surfaces are common. Strollers are not recommended unless it is the bicycle tire type. Wheelchairs are welcome but may work with difficulty.
